GST registration is governed by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs under the Goods and Services Tax framework in India.
GST Registration Process
GST registration can be completed online through the portal managed by the Goods and Services Tax Network under the regulations of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs. The basic steps are as follows:
Step 1
Generate TRN
Fill Part A of Form REG-01 on the GST portal with basic details such as PAN, mobile number, and email address to generate a Temporary Reference Number (TRN)
Step 2
Complete the Application
Log in using the TRN and fill Part B of Form REG-01, providing business details, place of business, bank information, and authorised signatory details.
Step 3
Upload Documents
Submit the required supporting documents for identity, address, and business verification.
Step 4
Aadhaar Authentication
Complete Aadhaar authentication to verify the applicant’s identity.
Step 5
Verification and Submission
Verify the application using EVC or DSC and submit it for processing. Once approved, a GST Identification Number (GSTIN) is issued.
Documents Required for GST Registration
You generally need the following documents:
- PAN of the Applicant
- Aadhaar card
- Proof of business registration or Incorporation certificate
- Identity and Address proof of Promoters/Director with Photographs
- Address proof of the place of business
- Bank Account statement/Cancelled cheque
- Digital Signature
- Letter of Authorisation/Board Resolution for Authorised Signatory
